Paper 2
Revise: Mr Jones and the farmersWhymper is not another landowner: he is a solicitor who becomes Napoleon's intermediary with the outside world. Trade offers access to materials the farm cannot produce, but it also abandons Old Major's rejection of human business practices. In the allegory, Whymper can be understood as representing the commercial intermediaries who made dealings between the Soviet Union and the capitalist world possible.
