Fusilier

The ‘boy fusilier’ joins for ‘company’ in line 11, and the farmer’s sons join for ‘music’ in line 12. ‘Boy’ and ‘sons’ emphasise youth and family relationships, rather than presenting the soldiers only as fighters. Companionship and military music suggest the attractions of army life, set against the terrifying burning described just before them.
