Revise: Part (a): comparing your text with an unseen extractComparison means more than noticing that both passages contain fear, conflict or suffering. It means explaining how the writers make those experiences similar or different. A useful argument might be that both writers show alarm through physical reactions, but one presents a community’s helpless concern while the other presents an individual learning that he is personally threatened.

Revise: Comparing two unseen poemsA comparison explains how reading the poems together sharpens your understanding of each. Saying that both poems concern loss identifies a topic. Saying that one offers permission to move beyond grief while the other leaves its speaker caught in longing identifies a relationship worth exploring.
