Paper 2
A group connected by shared place, relationships, customs or responsibilities.
Revise: Isolation and communityCommunity offers shared customs and practical support, but it can also exclude people through prejudice and concern for respectability.
Paper 1
Part (b): evaluate community rather than calling it entirely good or bad. Balance Raveloe’s prejudice and clumsy sympathy against its practical care and eventual welcome.
Compare the beginning and ending of the Rainbow scenes to show structural development, rather than simply listing examples of community.

A group connected by shared place, relationships, experiences or values. In Anita and Me, the Tollington community and the Kumars’ circle of Indian friends offer different kinds of belonging.
Community extends this idea beyond the household: the Kumars’ Indian friends offer a wider family network, while Tollington’s neighbours can offer affection but also exclusion.
Component 2
Revise: Isolation and communityCommunity is therefore not simply a crowd: it depends on trust, sympathy and responsibility.
