Revise: Act 1Before the street action begins, the Chorus introduces Verona and its two rival families, the Montagues and Capulets. “Two households, both alike in dignity” (Prologue, line 1) establishes their equal social standing. Neither household is presented as naturally superior: their shared status makes their shared responsibility for the conflict especially important.
