The feeling created by a setting and its presentation, such as unease, excitement or calm.
Revise: Descriptive writingBefore writing, choose an atmosphere and a viewpoint. For example, a description of a deserted station might suggest that the place is waiting for something that will never arrive. You could present it from a fixed position on the platform, using third-person description and past tense throughout.

Choose precise verbs and images that support the atmosphere. A technique earns its value through its effect, not merely through being included.

Setting is where and when the narrative happens; atmosphere is the mood the writing creates. A station can feel welcoming, lonely or threatening depending on the details selected and the character’s response to them.
