Revise: Natural and manufactured timbersTimber is wood used to make products and structures. Natural timbers are cut from trees and retain the wood's grain: the direction and pattern of its fibres. They are classified as hardwoods or softwoods according to the type of tree they come from.
Classify hardwoods and softwoods by the type of tree, not by how hard the timber feels: balsa is a hardwood.
For a material-choice question, link a named timber's property to the product's requirement rather than just saying it is ‘suitable’.
