Scale of production

The scale of production describes the quantity made and how manufacturing is organised. It affects the choice of materials, equipment, processes and workers’ skills. Papers and boards provide useful examples because they can be cut and folded by hand for a single model, or printed and converted into packaging using automated machinery.
