Revise: Mechanical Components and DevicesA belt-and-pulley drive transmits rotary motion between shafts. In a sewing machine, a belt can transfer rotation from a motor to the machine’s shaft; other mechanisms then produce the needle’s reciprocating motion. The belt itself does not directly make the needle move up and down.
