Revise: Primary material sourcesRefining removes unwanted substances so that the metal is suitable for its intended use. The metal can then be cast into blocks called ingots and further worked into sheets, bars, rods or tubes. Extraction, refining and shaping therefore have different jobs: obtaining the metal, improving its purity and producing a usable form.
