Mild steel

Definition

An iron–carbon alloy with a low carbon content; it is tough and readily shaped, cut and welded.

Mild steel has little carbon; high carbon steel has more. Stainless steel contains chromium, often with nickel, while tungsten steel contains tungsten. Cast iron has a higher carbon content than steels and good casting properties.
