Revise: Selection criteria for prototypesMaterial selection begins with functional need: what each part must do. This is translated into the properties required. An axle needs to carry a load and fit its moving parts; a part exposed to water needs resistance to corrosion.
Consider functional need, cost and availability together. The cheapest material is not suitable if it cannot do the job.
