Revise: Non-Ferrous MetalsHowever, some brasses are vulnerable to dezincification: corrosion that removes zinc, leaving a porous, copper-rich material with much less strength. Acidic or salty water can cause this in susceptible grades. A plumbing fitting may consequently leak or fail, so a designer must select a dezincification-resistant brass where the water conditions require it.
