A fibre forming a long, continuous length, rather than a short staple length.

Continuous filaments are long, uninterrupted lengths. Silk is the important natural exception: it is a continuous filament rather than a staple fibre. Manufactured fibres such as polyester and nylon can be produced as filaments or supplied in cut staple form.
