Closed-cell expanded plastic

In closed-cell expanded plastic, polymer walls separate the cells and trap gas inside them. This limits the passage of liquids through the structure and helps provide buoyancy. Closed-cell materials generally resist compression more strongly than otherwise similar open-cell foams because of the trapped gas.
