Revise: Reinforcement and Stiffening TechniquesA brace is a reinforcing member, usually positioned diagonally to create triangles and resist distortion. A strut carries compression: it resists being pushed shorter. Struts are used in timber-framed buildings as well as smaller products.

A diagonal brace divides it into triangles and restricts this movement. Triangulation is useful in supporting frames because it improves rigidity without filling the whole frame with material.
