Definition

Reading an algorithm’s instructions, conditions and control flow to work out how it operates and what it achieves.

Paper 1

Two useful ways to discover purpose are visual inspection and tracing. Visual inspection means reading the instructions and following their structure. Tracing means acting like the computer: carrying out each instruction in order with particular values.
