A named storage location whose value can change while an algorithm executes.

Revise: Trace TablesStart by reading the algorithm and identifying its variables. Give each variable a column, and add columns for input or output where needed. A step, line number or condition column can help you keep track of execution.
A named memory location used to hold a value that can change while a program runs.
Use the latest value of each variable when evaluating an expression or condition.
Record output only when an output instruction executes. A variable changing does not automatically produce output.
When tracing an assignment, evaluate the right-hand side using the current values, then update the variable on the left.
