The number of times a particular data item, such as a character, occurs.

Revise: Huffman CodingStart with one node for each different character, labelled with its character and frequency. Arrange the nodes from lowest to highest frequency.
The number of times a particular character or other data element occurs in a piece of data.
Count spaces as characters when finding frequencies.
After every merge, put the new node back in frequency order. Choose the two lowest frequencies from the updated list, not just from the original characters.
Check that the root frequency equals the total number of characters. Its frequency is not the number of bits in the compressed message.
