An operation that checks two values against each other, for example to decide which comes first in sorted order.

Revise: Algorithmic EfficiencyTo make a useful comparison, consider the algorithms working on the same input and producing the same required result. Comparing one algorithm on five items with another on several thousand would not show which method is more time-efficient.
Link your comparison to the work each algorithm does: explain why repeated passes or comparisons affect the time taken, rather than simply saying one algorithm is faster.
For this AQA topic, comparisons concern time efficiency only. Formal complexity notation and calculations are not required.
