A method for finding the magnetic field direction around a straight wire: point your right thumb along the conventional current, and your curled fingers show the field direction.

Revise: Current-Induced Magnetic FieldsUse the right-hand thumb rule. Imagine gripping the wire with your right hand. Point your thumb in the direction of conventional current; your curled fingers show the direction of the magnetic field around the wire.
Use conventional current direction for the right-hand thumb rule, not electron flow.
