Revise: Principles of HomeostasisReceptors are cells that detect stimuli — changes in the internal or external environment. Detecting a change is the first step; receptors do not themselves organise the whole response.
A cell or group of cells that detects a stimulus.
Distinguish the roles: receptors detect changes, coordination centres process information, and effectors carry out responses.
For a reflex pathway, give the neurones in order: sensory → relay → motor. Include the receptor and effector when describing the whole response.
