Magnetic dip pole

At the north magnetic dip pole, it points vertically downwards. At the magnetic equator, where the field is horizontal, the needle has no dip. In the southern magnetic hemisphere, the north-seeking end tilts upwards; at the south magnetic dip pole, it points vertically upwards.
