Definition

A straight line or smooth curve that represents the overall pattern of plotted data.

A line of best fit passes through or close to the plotted points, with a reasonable balance of points on either side. Draw a single straight line with a ruler when the pattern is linear. If the pattern bends, draw a smooth curve instead.
