Revise: Forces as VectorsWhen a person pushes a basketball, the person exerts a force on the ball and the ball exerts a force on the person. These are a force pair: one force acts on each object. Describing a force therefore means identifying both the object experiencing it and the object exerting it.

A force pair acts on two different objects. Do not confuse this with two forces acting on the same object.

These two forces form a force pair. Newton’s third law states that whenever two objects interact, the forces they exert on each other are equal in size and opposite in direction.
