Scientific data are information obtained by observing or measuring. Recording data is only the beginning: interpreting them means working out what they show. This helps scientists decide what to investigate next as scientific ideas are developed and reviewed.

Keep conclusions within the conditions and range of the data. A correlation alone does not prove causation.

Scientific data need to be recorded clearly before they can be processed or used as evidence. A reader should be able to tell what was observed, what was measured and what each number means.
