Revise: Citizens and citizenshipRoman citizenship was a legal status: it made someone a recognised member of the Roman state, with rights and responsibilities. A citizen did not have to live in the city of Rome. Citizens could live elsewhere in Italy or in distant provinces, while some people living in Rome itself were not citizens.
