Revise: Visual and Material SourcesThe Herculaneum Gate monument was a cenotaph, serving a commemorative purpose; the couple’s actual burial containing their ashes was at Porta Nocera. Keep these two monuments distinct. The Archaeological Park’s “Nevoleia Tyche” record, section “The Tomb in the Necropolis of Porta Ercolano” explains this distinction and identifies the south-side seat relief and north-side ship relief.
