Paper 1
Revise: Role of Members of ParliamentA policy is a proposed course of action. Debating policy means discussing its aims, likely consequences and possible alternatives. MPs can explain why they support or oppose an approach and draw attention to how it could affect their constituents.
Distinguish debating policy from scrutinising legislation: policy debates concern proposed courses of action; legislative scrutiny examines the wording and effects of proposed laws.
