Revise: Ceramics, Polymers, and CompositesMost composites contain a continuous matrix, or binder, surrounding fibres or fragments of a reinforcement. The matrix holds the reinforcement in position and transfers forces to it; the reinforcement supplies properties such as extra strength or stiffness. The materials remain distinguishable rather than becoming a single pure substance.
