A test used to identify a substance from an observable result rather than by measuring how much is present.
Revise: Test for HydrogenHydrogen is a colourless, flammable gas, so its appearance alone does not identify it. Instead, it is tested using a characteristic chemical reaction. This is a qualitative test: the observation tells you whether hydrogen is present, rather than measuring its amount.
