Revise: Condensation PolymerisationBecause this reaction happens repeatedly at both ends of the monomers, the chain contains many ester links and is therefore a polyester.
Specification 9.22C · Paper 2
Revise: Condensation PolymersDuring polyester formation, every new ester link is accompanied by the formation of one molecule of water. Since this happens repeatedly as the polymer chain grows, polyesters are condensation polymers.
When explaining why a polyester is a condensation polymer, state both defining features: monomers join to form a polymer and a small molecule, water, is eliminated each time an ester link forms.
