The reactant that is completely used up in a reaction and therefore determines the maximum amount of product that can form.
Revise: Limiting ReactantsThe reactant that is completely used up is the limiting reactant. Once it has gone, the required reacting particles are no longer available, so no more product can form. The other reactant is in excess and some of it is left unreacted.
