Revise: Types of Chemical BondsIonic bonding usually occurs when a metal combines with a non-metal. Electrons pass from metal atoms to non-metal atoms. Losing negatively charged electrons leaves a metal atom as a positive ion; gaining them makes a non-metal atom a negative ion.
