Revise: Configuration and Periodic PositionGroup 0 contains elements with a full outer shell. Neon has the configuration 2.8 and argon has 2.8.8, so both are in group 0. Helium is also in group 0: its only shell is full with two electrons.

For Edexcel group numbers 1–7, the group number equals the number of outer-shell electrons. Treat group 0 separately: its atoms have a full outer shell.
Helium is in group 0 because its first and only shell is full with two electrons; it does not need eight outer-shell electrons.
State all three required properties clearly: Group 0 elements are gases at room temperature and pressure, have low melting and boiling points, and are very unreactive.
