A pattern of light at particular wavelengths produced by a substance; each metal ion produces a characteristic emission spectrum.
Revise: Flame PhotometryA flame photometer can also provide an emission spectrum. It appears as a pattern of lines at particular wavelengths, rather like a barcode. Different metal ions produce different characteristic patterns, so data from an unknown sample can be compared with reference spectra obtained from known metal ions.
- Revise: Mathematical Applications
A chart showing the wavelengths or frequencies of radiation emitted by a substance and their intensities.
