The conversion of an ion into a substance at an electrode during electrolysis.
Revise: Electrolysis of Aqueous SolutionsThe electrodes therefore have competing ions to discharge. With inert electrodes, such as carbon rods, the electrodes conduct electricity without themselves providing the products. Which ions are discharged depends on the rules for the ions present.
