Carbon capture and storage

Industries can use carbon capture and storage. Carbon dioxide is trapped before it escapes from power generation or another industrial process and is then stored deep underground in suitable porous rock. This prevents some of the produced carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere, although it does not stop the process producing it.

Carbon capture and storage can prevent some carbon dioxide from a fossil-fuel power station entering the atmosphere by capturing it and storing it in deep rock formations.
