Revise: Bacterial DiseasesGonorrhoea is a bacterial sexually transmitted infection, traditionally called a sexually transmitted disease. It spreads through sexual contact because the bacteria can be transferred in infected sexual fluids.

Revise: Sexually Transmitted InfectionsA sexually transmitted infection (STI) passes from one person to another through sexual contact. During vaginal, anal or oral sex, infected fluids can reach another person's body. A person can pass on an STI without knowing they have it, so the absence of symptoms does not show that a partner is free of infection.

Revise: Common InfectionsA sexually transmitted infection, or STI, is an infection that can pass between people through sexual contact. “STI” describes a route of transmission rather than a particular pathogen group: STIs may be caused by different kinds of pathogen.

Do not claim that every barrier method protects against sexually transmitted infections. Condoms can reduce transmission; diaphragms and caps do not provide STI protection.
Keep pregnancy prevention and protection from sexually transmitted infections separate. Hormonal methods do not reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections; condoms can reduce that risk.
