Revise: Coding for ProteinsA gene is a section of DNA. Its sequence of bases provides the instructions for joining amino acids in a particular order to make a protein. This connects two different kinds of polymer: DNA is made from nucleotides, while proteins are made from amino acids.
When decoding a sequence, divide it into consecutive groups of three from the stated starting point; do not count overlapping triplets.
Keep the levels distinct: bases form a sequence in a gene, base triplets code for amino acids, and amino acids join in sequence to make a protein.
If asked to explain rather than state, complete the chain of reasoning: base sequence → triplet sequence → amino acid sequence → protein.
