Paper 1 (Foundation), Paper 2 (Foundation), Paper 3 (Higher), Paper 4 (Higher)
A resting state in which a living seed does not germinate, even though it may remain capable of doing so later.
Revise: Gibberellins and EtheneGibberellins are linked particularly with events such as breaking seed dormancy, germination, stem elongation and flowering or bolting. Ethene is linked with fruit ripening and leaf fall. Both are plant hormones, but they act at different stages and on different tissues; they should not be treated as interchangeable growth chemicals.
For each effect, name the hormone and then state the plant response: for example, gibberellins → breaking seed dormancy and germination; ethene → fruit ripening.
