Phytoalexin

Definition

An antimicrobial substance produced by some plants following infection, particularly in response to bacteria or fungi.

Some plants produce antimicrobials called phytoalexins after detecting infection; these can disrupt the metabolism or cell structures of certain bacteria and fungi.
