Revise: Evaluating Data QualityAn outlier is a data point that lies away from the pattern or spread of the other results. It must initially be treated as genuine data. Discarding it simply because it does not fit the expected pattern would make the analysis biased.
Never discard an outlier just because it is inconvenient. State the evidence for a measurement or recording mistake; otherwise retain it and consider repeating the measurement.
