Revise: The BrainMRI scanning provides detailed images of a living brain and can reveal damaged areas without opening the skull. Functional MRI can also show which regions become more active during a task by detecting changes in blood flow. Together, these methods build a map of brain function; no single observation tells scientists everything an area does.
