A defect of vision in which light from a near object would come to a focus behind the retina, making near objects appear blurred.

Revise: Vision Defects and CorrectionsTwo common defects are myopia and hyperopia.
On a ray diagram, locate the retina and the point where the rays meet before naming the defect: in front means myopia; behind means hyperopia.
Check the lens shape as well as its name: a concave lens is thinner in the middle and corrects myopia; a convex lens is thicker in the middle and corrects hyperopia.
