Fluorescent dye

Definition

A light-emitting label that can be attached to an antibody so that the location of a bound target can be seen.

Researchers may attach a fluorescent dye to a monoclonal antibody. If the target molecule is present in a cell or tissue sample, the antibody binds to it. The fluorescence then shows where that molecule is located.
