Specification B1.2g · Paper 1 (Foundation), Paper 3 (Higher)
A permanent change in an enzyme's three-dimensional shape so that its active site is no longer complementary to its substrate.
Do not say that an enzyme is killed. At high temperatures or unsuitable pH values, it is denatured because its active site changes shape.
Do not say that an enzyme “dies”. At high temperatures or extreme pH, it is denatured; low temperature usually only slows its activity.
