Revise: Nitrogen CycleFarmers can also use crop rotation. A legume crop supports nitrogen-fixing bacteria in its root nodules. When its nitrogen-containing remains are left in the field and decompose, nitrogen can become available in the soil for a later, non-legume crop.

Revise: Preventing SpreadCrop rotation changes the crop grown in a field over time. If the next crop is not a suitable host, the pathogen has fewer opportunities to persist and spread between successive crops.
When explaining crop rotation, link legumes to nitrogen-fixing bacteria in root nodules, then explain how nitrogen in their remains can become available to a later crop.
