Revise: Factors affecting decompositionAnaerobic respiration releases less energy than aerobic respiration, so growth and decomposition are usually slower. A lack of oxygen therefore does not necessarily stop decomposition completely.
When comparing aerobic and anaerobic decomposition, make clear that decomposition can occur without oxygen, but it is usually slower because anaerobic respiration releases less energy.
