The proportion of all copies of a gene in a population that consist of a particular allele.

Revise: SpeciationNatural selection therefore changes allele frequencies in the population over generations; it does not cause individual organisms to develop useful mutations because they need them.
Use “allele frequency increases” rather than saying that an advantageous allele simply “takes over”.
